I am Dr. Richard Alan Simmons, a podiatrist who has been licensed to practice podiatry in the State of Florida since 1982. An Orlando native and UCF graduate (1978), I began my practice in Winter Park, Florida and maintained an office-based practice until 1994 when I became aware of the dire need for medical services for the elderly in their homes. My practice provides basic podiatric medical, surgical, and palliative care to homebound, elderly, diabetic, and otherwise infirm people in Brevard County.
Currently, my practice includes Melbourne, Eau Gallie, Rockledge, Suntree, Viera, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, Indialantic, Melbourne Beach, Indian Harbour Beach, Port St. John, Titusville, Mims, Micco, Barefoot Bay, and Sebastian in Indian River County.
Basic services include the trimming or debriding of toenails, reducing of corns and calluses, referring to appropriate home care nursing agencies, biopsy, prescribing topical medications for the treatment of fungus, dry skin, eczema, dermatitis, etc., assessment of vascular (circulation, blood flow) and neurological (nerves, neuropathy, anesthesia, paresthesia) status, etc. Surgical procedures are limited to the treatment of ingrown toenails (onychocryptosis, paronychia) and treatment of fungus toenails (onychomycosis). A referral to a pedorthist for diabetic shoes is also available.
Concierge services are available for those who desire prompt care without the hindrance of insurance eligibility and for those whose health care coverage is by a managed care organization.
For Medicare Part "B" coverage, the patient must meet Medicare's criteria for being homebound. If you are not sure, please contact your primary care physician. Bedbound/bedridden persons are housebound. Typically, if you are under the care of a home care nursing agency such as, Florida Hospital Home Care, Wuesthoff Home Care, Healthfirst Home Care, Parrish Home Care, Amedysis Home Care, Absolute Home Care, Quality Home Care, etc. or a hospice agency (Vitas, Hospice of Saint Francis, Wuesthoff Hospice, etc.), you have met Medicare's criteria. Secondly, medical necessity requires 1) poor circulation, 2) numbness of toes, or 3) the use of a blood thinner such as Coumadin/warfarin, Eliquis, Xarelto, Plavix, etc.
In addition to Medicare Part "B", the office also accepts Tricare, Aetna, United Health Care, and many other plans that pay secondarily to Medicare.
These statements are for informational purposes only and should never be construed to imply that Simmons' Podiatry, P. A. guarantees payment for services rendered by any of these insurance companies.
If your health care services are provided by an HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) my office will provide you with a statement that you can present to your HMO. You will be responsible for the payment of services at the time of the visit. These services will be billed to you at the current rate allowed by Medicare Part "B." You may, however, simply request to have toenails trimmed as a non-Medicare/non-Insurance-covered service. The fee for this concierge service is $125.00 for the initial visit (30 minutes) and $80.00 for subsequent services (20 minutes).
Simmons' Podiatry, P. A. does not provide emergency services. If you believe the care you need is of an urgent nature, please call 9-1-1 or present to the nearest emergency room for care. Dr. Richard A. Simmons participates as a provider who will not write prescriptions for controlled substances including narcotics and painkillers.
All patients seen by Dr. Richard A. Simmons must be under the active care of either a medical doctor (M.D.) or osteopathic physician (D.O.), which includes active care provided by a licensed nurse practitioner or physician's assistant. Any treatment which requires comprehensive medical care will be referred to the primary care physician.
